External customs transit

In external transit procedure non-community goods can be moved between two points in the customs territory of the EU without having to pay duties and without trade policy measures related to the goods (transit procedure). Non-community goods are transported under customs control. The goods and the documents must be presented at the destination customs point and the goods must be entered into another customs procedure. The transport can only be initiated once a guarantee has been provided at entry or in case the goods forwarding starts from inland territory (T procedure).

Internal customs transit

This procedure allows the movement of community goods between 2 points of EU customs territory through a 3rd country without the change of the customs status of the goods.

Goods forwarding under TIR

The TIR carnet is an international customs document which allows the transport and forwarding of goods from and to 3rd countries. A condition of the TIR procedure is that the movement of the goods must include transport by road.
